Nelsons

This morning we went to church. It was getting to the point where there’d been too many social events with not enough people who you truly look forward to seeing. That did not come out more until the afternoon in the hours before the camp banquet. I wrote something in my journal about always feeling so lonely and asked God to help me make friends. I resolved inside to try to at least talk to others and help them at least to have a better time because they weren’t alone.

So I talked to the visiting pastor and his wife and the kids they brought for quite a while. It was actually pretty fun and we had a chance to hear the brief update on people’s lives since the last time we saw them ten years ago when we moved here. She is still homeschooling and has done so all throughout high school. The pastor was one of these guys who I kind of had judged for being uppity and condemning in things he had written but he was a happy and pleasant to talk to person.

So that went well and was an enjoyable time. The pastor’s talk was about patience and at the end of it Josh got up and thanked me for being his CPO, his chief patience officer. Sometimes the wife jokes don’t land with me but in this case I don’t think he was joking and it made me smile. He told everybody we were going to be grandparents and that it gives him extra incentive to keep camp going for his granddaughter. Afterwards the kids and I walked home along the camp road.
